Knitting squares: Donated to midwives

It has been a very busy few months for one client of the Abingdon and Didcot branch who has been getting creative and knitting blanket squares!

The lovely Dorothy, her daughter Kate and GoodOaks carer Claire have been knitting colourful squares and making them into beautiful blankets for their local midwifery group in Oxford.

The knitted creations were in support of Flo’s Oxford Midwives who are a local midwifery team, supporting the community and offering weekly clinics at Flo’s – The Place in the Park.

Dorothy and Kate met with midwife Amy today in a café in Florence park for a coffee and to present their first blanket. Amy and her team loved the blanket so much that they asked if the ladies would make smaller blankets for premature babies. This will be their next mission for 2024.

In the UK nearly 85,000 babies are born prematurely in the UK every year (Bliss.org) so being able to provide comfort and warmth to those vulnerable newborns is a real privilege. GoodOaks will support this further by encouraging other clients to get involved and start knitting.

GoodOaks Director Jan Hounsell said “We love to see our clients getting involved within their local community whilst doing something they love. The blankets will be a wonderful addition to the ward at the hospital.”
