Homecare options: what to consider when looking at homecare options?

Choosing care options for a loved one can be overwhelming. By seeking recommendations, reading CQC reports, and evaluate the responsiveness of care providers you can feel confident you are choosing the right one for you and your family.

Live in care

When the time comes to begin looking at care options for a loved one, it can feel overwhelming. It’s a significant decision and will involve you considering a variety of factors and asking the right questions, to ensure the best possible outcome for that person.

Firstly, you could ask yourself, do I know what I’m looking for?

Many people we talk to have no idea that live-in care is an homecare option where a Care Professional can stay with you in your own home round-the-clock.

What about respite care? Care takes many forms and by doing your research, you’ll be better informed when calling care providers for the first time.

Care homes are certainly not the only option or necessarily suited to everyone. We’re all individuals, with our own likes and preferences and care is not a one size fits all approach.

  • Ask around:
    • What are other people saying in your local community? Do they have recommendations or know anyone who’s received care by a certain provider?
  • Read reports:
    • CQC is your go to resource for rating reports. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is an independent regulatory body in England responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of health and social care services. The CQC continuously monitors registered services and can take enforcement action if providers fail to meet the required standards
  • Make that call:
    • When you make your initial inquiry, is the person on the other end of the phone taking the time to really listen to you? Are they empathetic and helpful? This first interaction is crucial and can often be the deciding factor in your decision making.
