Aneta Ryszka has been a carer with GoodOaks Homecare for seven years providing live-in and visiting care for clients. She urged those thinking of a career in care to try it as it is a ‘hugely rewarding job.’
Originally from Poland, she worked in a care home doing the laundry until friends suggested that with her caring nature, she’d be a great addition to the team. Although she says she wasn’t sure at first, Aneta quickly found she loved the job and found it very rewarding. She started working with GoodOaks seven years ago, doing predominantly live-in care work, and hasn’t looked back. During the Pandemic she isolated with clients for five to six weeks at a time to keep them safe and describes being a carer as like becoming part of the family.
She said: “My favourite part of the job is helping people. With live-in care, you do become part of the family, because you spend a lot of time with the person and get to know their friends and family. I think the thing I most enjoy is helping people and making sure they have everything they deserve – a clean house, fresh, tasty food and just to make sure life is enjoyable for them. If you can make someone happy, that’s the best feeling.
For those thinking of a career in care, but who are maybe a little apprehensive like Aneta was to start with, she advised people to try it and see how they feel. Aneta said: “Just try it and if you have a caring attitude, you can change someone’s life. If you can make someone smile that’s amazing.
Aneta has recently been announced as GoodOaks – Bournemouth and Poole’s Carer of the Year. She said she was ‘surprised and delighted’ to receive the award.
