Yesterday, we danced, we sang and celebrated one of the highlights of the GoodOaks calendar: our second annual Elvis afternoon in support of Age UK Waltham Forest.
A bigger Elvis afternoon than ever
Last year was our first Elvis event, and it exceeded every expectation. Sixty people came together for an afternoon filled with music, laughter and community spirit. This year, we took it to another level. Tickets sold out within weeks, and we welcomed 100 guests through the doors – almost double last year’s turnout.
For us at GoodOaks Woodford Green, the event means even more because we were able to bring along 10 of the people we support at home to enjoy the afternoon with us. Seeing them singing along, dancing and enjoying the atmosphere was a wonderful reminder of the importance of connection and companionship.
Celebrating community together
Ageing can sometimes bring loneliness and social isolation, particularly for people who spend much of their time at home. Events like this provide an opportunity to get out, meet others, enjoy live entertainment and simply have fun. And sometimes, that can make all the difference.
As always, GoodOaks Woodford Green added a few special touches, providing cakes and goodie bags for everyone who joined us. We believe that caring for our communities is about more than the care we provide at home – it’s also about creating opportunities for people to come together and enjoy shared experiences.

And then there was Elvis himself! A very special thank you to Sal Bashir, our award-winning Elvis, who had the whole room singing, dancing and thoroughly entertained from start to finish.
Two years in, what started as a new idea has become a genuine highlight of the local community calendar. We’re incredibly proud to be part of an event that brings older people together, creates wonderful memories and celebrates the importance of community and connection.
We’re already looking forward to seeing what next year brings!
