What is live-in care?

Discover live-in care and how it delivers personalised, around-the-clock support, combining comfort, independence, and companionship in the familiarity of your home.

what is live-in care

Live-in care is a type of service where a specially trained care professional comes to live with you in your home to provide continuous, personalised care.

This allows for around-the-clock support and companionship, enabling individuals who may need help with daily tasks or have health conditions, to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. It is often a preferred option for people who want to maintain independence in familiar surroundings while receiving the necessary care they need.

Live-in care is a flexible solution, and care professionals can provide varying levels of support, depending on your needs. It’s particularly useful for elderly people, those recovering from surgery, individuals with disabilities, or anyone who needs a bit more help to manage daily life independently.

What tasks will a live-in care professional help me with?

  • Personal care
  • Medication management
  • Meal preparation
  • Companionship
  • Accessing the community and more…

We know that no two people are the same therefore neither are our care plans, each person’s care is tailored to them and their established routines. We get asked a lot about what a day in the life of live-in care professional looks like, so we spoke to Ruth who has worked as a live-in care professional for GoodOaks for 3 years to give an example of timings and tasks involved with her client.

What happens at night with live-in care?

Night-time can be worrying for family members, but knowing that a loved one has someone in the house with them brings reassurance. To ensure your care professional is able to deliver high quality care during the day, they will need to be well rested and sleep during the night. If there is a need for regular support and assistance throughout the night, this can be arranged with a ‘waking night’ care professional, who will be able to assist.

Can I still go out if I have live-in care?

Absolutely! At GoodOaks, all of our live-in care professionals must be drivers and have access to a vehicle. This enables them to take you out for coffee, to appointments, to see friends and support your independence.

How do I know if live-in care is right for me?

We have written a comparison on Care Home V’s Live-in Care that gives a clear idea of the differences. Everyone is unique and has individual likes and preferences but live-in care is fast becoming a great alternative than moving into a residential care home.

At GoodOaks, we specialise in live-in care, providing compassionate and high-quality support to help individuals remain in the homes they love. To discuss a personalised care plan for your loved one speak to our care team today.
