Community, kindness and a very special Christmas roast

At GoodOaks Homecare, we know how important community connection is to the wellbeing of older people and their families. Recently, our Bedford branch was pleased to support a thoughtful local initiative that brought people together over good food and good company.

GoodOaks Bedford clients

The idea came from Forhad Rouf, owner of ROCA restaurant in Bedford and a childhood friend of Naz Islam, Director of the GoodOaks Homecare Bedford branch. A moment that reminded him of his late grandmother inspired him to give something meaningful back to older people in the local community.

Forhad offered to welcome a small group of GoodOaks clients and their families to ROCA restaurant for a roast meal. The Bedford team worked carefully around existing care visits to ensure the outing could take place without disrupting anyone’s usual support, while also giving unpaid family carers a short but valuable break.

ROCA opened outside of its normal hours for the visit, with Forhad and Head Chef Rahman personally looking after guests throughout the meal. Although the restaurant’s Sunday roast is usually only available on Sundays, a special Christmas roast was prepared on a weekday so everyone could enjoy the experience together!

The meal was warmly received by clients and their families, who appreciated both the quality of the food and the relaxed, welcoming environment. Moments like these can make a real difference, offering social connection and a change of routine that many people value greatly.

GoodOaks Homecare would like to thank ROCA restaurant, Forhad and Chef Rahman for their generosity and kindness. It is encouraging to see local businesses supporting older people in ways that are thoughtful, respectful and genuinely caring.

This initiative reflects the strength of the Bedford community and the importance of working together to support people to feel valued, included and well cared for.
