What can I expect from my Social Circle?

Each GoodOaks Social Circles gathering is unique, with themes and activities that change based on the time of year and the interests of those attending. 10-11am – Collected from your own home

Your host picks you up from home in their own car, allowing you to relax and look forward to the day ahead.

11am – Engaging conversations and social activities

Settle in, chat with familiar faces, and get to know new ones. Gentle conversation starters and shared interests help everyone feel included, making it easy to engage and enjoy the company.

12pm – A delicious home-cooked meal

Everyone gathers around the table for a delicious, freshly prepared meal. This communal dining experience is a highlight of the day, bringing back the joy of sitting down with others to enjoy good food and great conversation. Dietary preferences and needs are always taken into account.

1pm – Enjoy a range of activities

Each session includes a different activity, inspired by the time of year and the interests of attendees. One day it might be a fun quiz or storytelling session, another day it could be arts and crafts or singing. The goal is to have fun, spark conversation, and create enjoyable shared experiences.

2-3pm – Transport home

As the day winds down, you’ll get dropped home feeling uplifted and fulfilled, having formed new friendships and fond memories, looking forward to your next visit.

Case study

Amanda, 81, from Bishop’s Stortford, had always been an active member of her local church and enjoyed spending time with her friends. But after recovering from a hip operation, she found it harder to get out and about. With many of her friends having moved away, her days became quieter, and she missed the laughter and companionship she once had.

Amanda’s daughter discovered GoodOaks Social Circles East Herts through a local community post and suggested she try it. From her very first visit at a host’s home in Sawbridgeworth, Amanda was warmly welcomed by the friendly group and their host, who made everyone feel at ease.

She enjoyed the home-cooked lunch, lively conversations, and activities like quizzes and sharing family recipes. What stood out most was how relaxed it felt — like spending an afternoon with old friends rather than attending a “service.” The carefully selected and DBS-checked hosts ensured every guest felt supported, included, and valued.

Amanda now attends her Social Circle every week and looks forward to it eagerly. She’s formed genuine friendships and says it’s given her a reason to “get up, get ready, and smile again.”

Her family has noticed the difference too; she’s more cheerful, confident, and engaged in daily life.

GoodOaks Social Circles East Herts has not only brought Amanda joy and companionship but has helped her reconnect with her community; showing how simple acts of kindness and connection can truly change lives.
