The holidays and New Year celebrations are a time to relax, see family and friends and enjoy the best of the festive fun. Care professionals can help make the most wonderful time of the year, even more magical for our clients.
Tracy McMann is a care professional from Dorset who worked throughout Christmas and New Year last year. Here she talks about what being a care professional is like during the December holidays.
“Working over Christmas is such a joy. The atmosphere is great, everyone is friendly, happy to see you and excited to celebrate. It’s hugely rewarding and such a great feeling.”
Tracy joked that she’s in high demand to put the Christmas decorations up for clients. “I’m 5ft 8ins so getting the star on top of the tree isn’t a problem for me!”
Care professionals help in all sorts of lovely ways to help clients get their homes ready for festivities. Tracey told us how she often enjoys helping with meal planning and getting extra shopping ahead of family visits. She will also ensure that clients have enough medication to see them through, meaning they can relax knowing that this is taken care of.
She added: “We sometimes watch old Christmas movies together or go to a carol concert. It’s all great fun!” Last year, she particularly enjoyed taking clients gift shopping, even stopping to see the festive lights and decorations at the garden centre on the way. “It’s so lovely to just get out and have a coffee together.”
So much of what Tracey does as a care professional is helping people get out into their communities and feel included, helping them to live independently and continue doing the activities they enjoy for longer.
“It’s such a great job when you know you’re making a real difference to people’s lives. It’s great to see clients with their families and friends celebrating.”
All this with the added peace of mind of care professional support to help them along the way.
“It’s the little things that make a big difference.”
We take great pride in providing care with dignity and respect. For us, it’s about recognising the small things that make a huge difference. We put our clients at the centre of their care and are dedicated to building a bespoke care package around them, that will help them live more independently in the comfort of their own homes.
