Last week, our GoodOaks Homecare Bournemouth and Poole team spent the day at the Gather space in the Dolphin Centre in Poole, alongside our friends at BCP Lifeline. It was a chance to step away from the office, meet local people face to face, and talk about the things that matter to families across Bournemouth and Poole.
We love being part of this community, and getting out and about is one of the best ways we know to support it. Meeting local people, listening to their experiences and understanding the challenges families face helps us build genuine connections beyond the care we provide.
It’s also an opportunity to share useful advice, answer questions and let people know that friendly, practical support is available when they need it.
Key takeaways
- We joined BCP Lifeline at the Gather space in the Dolphin Centre, Poole, on Thursday 15 October
- We shared free information for family carers, including leaflets on slips and falls, funding and looking after yourself
- We chatted with local people about Social Circles, our friendly group days for older adults who would enjoy more company
- Being visible in the community means families know who we are before they ever need to ask for help
Why we show up in our local community
GoodOaks Homecare Bournemouth and Poole has been rooted in Bournemouth and Poole since 2011, and being part of this area means more to us than delivering care in people’s homes. It means being visible, approachable and useful to the families who live around us.
Many people only start looking into care when something changes suddenly, perhaps after a fall, a hospital stay or a worrying phone call. We would much rather they already know who we are, and feel able to ask a question without any pressure.
Supporting family carers
Looking after someone you love can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be tiring and, at times, lonely. At our stand we shared free information designed to make life a little easier for family carers. Leaflets on slips and falls, understanding funding and looking after your own wellbeing were among the most popular.
If you could not make it along, you can find free guides, support and advice for family carers on our You Are Not Alone page.
Social Circles, careers and getting in touch
It was lovely to talk with people about Social Circles, our friendly group days for older adults who are independent but would enjoy more company. A host welcomes a small group into their home for conversation, activities and a home-cooked lunch together.
We also met people who are curious about a career in care. If that sounds like you, you do not need previous experience to start in a visiting role, as we provide full paid training. Take a look at our current openings.
A big thank you to BCP Lifeline for having us, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello. If you missed us, our friendly GoodOaks Homecare Bournemouth and Poole team would love to hear from you.Â
Whether you’re looking for support for a loved one, have questions about arranging homecare, or simply want to find out more about our services, we’re always happy to have a chat. You can get in touch at any time for a friendly, informal conversation. There’s no pressure, no obligation and no expectation to make a decision – just helpful advice and the opportunity to explore what might work best for you and your family.
