On a warm Friday afternoon in August, the GoodOaks Homecare Barnet and Enfield team stepped outside our office at Highstone House in Barnet with something simple but practical: free bottles of water.
What started as a simple idea to help with keeping Barnet hydrated became a great opportunity to connect with local people, share a few conversations and offer a helping hand on a warm summer afternoon.
Why we did it
At GoodOaks Homecare Barnet and Enfield, care is at the heart of what we do. While much of our work involves supporting people in their own homes with personal care, companionship, live-in care and visiting care, we also believe in supporting the wider communities we serve.
Warm weather can be particularly challenging for older people, making staying hydrated especially important. A cold bottle of water is a simple gesture, but one that can make a difference on a hot afternoon.
So, on Friday 14th August, we filled the coolers, put up our banners and set up outside our Highstone House office (EN5 5SU) from 2pm, ready to welcome people from the local community.
A warm welcome from the community
Throughout the afternoon, we welcomed a steady stream of local people, with many stopping for a chat before taking a bottle of water with them. It was a simple opportunity to meet people in the community and spend some time connecting with those who live and work nearby.
As a local care provider based in the heart of Barnet, being part of the community is important to us. Initiatives like this give our team the chance to connect with local people outside of our day-to-day care services.
More than just a bottle of water
The afternoon also gave us an opportunity to talk to people about the homecare support available across Barnet and Enfield. From visiting care and companionship to personal care and live-in support, our aim is to provide reliable, compassionate care that helps people remain independent and comfortable at home.
