We provide flexible visiting homecare across areas like High Barnet, North Finchley, Whetstone, Finchley, Southgate, and Edmonton.
Our small, local team led by director Larry Williams focuses on building real partnerships with clients and their families. We treat everyone with empathy, respect, and professionalism, living out our PRIDE values every day. Here’s a glimpse into a typical day for me. Starting the day bright and early.
My day begins around 7am with a quick check of my schedule on the GoodOaks app. I plan my route to keep things efficient (and we offset any carbon from travel – we’re proud to be the UK’s only carbon-neutral homecare provider!). First stop is a lovely client in Whetstone who needs help with her morning routine.
I arrive, greet her with a smile, and assist with washing and dressing. Then we prepare breakfast together, usually poached eggs on toast, her favourite. We chat about her grandchildren while I prompt her medication. These small moments of companionship make a big difference, especially for those living alone.
Mid-morning visits and local connections
By mid-morning, I’m off to North Finchley to visit a gentleman recovering from a hospital stay at Barnet Hospital. He’s regaining strength, so I help with mobility exercises, light housekeeping, and preparing a nutritious lunch. We often talk about local events – I recently suggested he try the Meet and Eat Club at The Larches Community Centre in Edgware, run by Age UK Barnet. It’s a wonderful social lunch with games and quizzes on Wednesdays.
Barnet and Enfield offer so many great resources. I often signpost clients to services like the Barnet Libraries Home Library Service for book deliveries, or the Re-Engage tea parties for those over 75 who might feel isolated. Connecting people to these community gems helps them stay active and engaged!
Afternoon companionship and support
After lunch, I head to a client in Finchley with early-stage dementia. Today, we run some errands along the High Street in Barnet, picking up prescriptions from a local pharmacy called Greenfield Pharmacy. Then I accompany her to the Finchley Memory Cafe at Stephens House on the second Wednesday of the month. It’s a safe, welcoming space for people with memory impairments and their families to connect, with friendly chats and activities.
These outings build confidence and joy. Back home, I help with a spot of tidying and prepare a light afternoon tea. Our care plans are always personalised and we work closely with families to ensure everything fits the client’s routines and preferences.
Winding down in the evening
My final visit is often an evening check-in in Edmonton, helping a client wind down for the day. This might involve preparing a simple supper, ensuring medication is taken, and sharing a cup of tea while watching a favourite show. Companionship is just as important as practical help because it reassures clients and their loved ones that support is always there.
By the end of my shift, I’ve travelled across our beautiful boroughs, from the bustling High Street in Barnet to the community feel of North Finchley!
