Finding purpose through franchising at GoodOaks Homecare

For many people, the idea of business ownership can feel like a leap into the unknown. But for Babita Lochab (Bee), Franchise Partner at GoodOaks Homecare South Warwickshire, it became an opportunity to build something meaningful, not just for her family, but for her community.

Finding purpose through franchising at GoodOaks Homecare

“I’ve been in finance pretty much all my working life,” Bee explains. “Banking, corporate roles, that was my world. Care was never something I had considered.”

Like many, Bee’s journey into homecare was shaped by personal experience. When her father-in-law became seriously unwell, she saw firsthand the difference great care can make.

“We saw everything. Carers who truly cared and made a difference, and others who were just there to do a job. That contrast really stayed with me. It made me think, if I was ever going to do something, it had to have purpose.”

That moment became a turning point. Alongside her husband, Bee had already been thinking about building a business of their own. This experience gave them clarity.

“It just felt like a calling. I’ve always wanted to do something that makes a difference.”

Finding the right fit

Like many prospective Franchise Partners, Bee explored different options before choosing GoodOaks Homecare.

“We looked at a few care franchises and it just didn’t feel right. They were very sales driven, very focused on money. It didn’t feel like people were at the heart of it.”

Her experience with GoodOaks was very different.

“From the very first conversation, it was personable. It was about who we were as people. They genuinely cared about who they were bringing into the business.”

“The passion I felt was matched. It just felt like the right place to build something.”

Starting a business with support

Launching a business in a new sector could have been daunting. Bee joined GoodOaks without a care background, but says the training and support made all the difference.

“The onboarding was seamless. The training was intense, but in a good way. It never felt overwhelming and really helped me understand both the theory and practical side of care.”

“I left training feeling ready. I had the business experience, and GoodOaks gave me the care knowledge and structure to bring it together.”

Support has continued beyond those early weeks.

“Everyone is so approachable. Whether it’s the National Office team or the Founders, you can always pick up the phone. You never feel like you’re on your own.”

Building something that matters

Now running her South Warwickshire franchise, Bee’s focus is clear: delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

“I genuinely love what I do. It doesn’t feel like work. I care about every client and make sure I’m there for every assessment.”

Bee is quick to highlight the importance of her team, particularly Registered Manager Annette Dixon.

“Hiring Annette was the best decision I’ve made. She’s been incredible, and having the right people around you makes all the difference.”

One recent experience stands out.

“We had a client who was very anxious and had spoken to several care companies. She chose us because we took the time to listen and made her feel at ease. She even waited for us. That meant everything.”

For Bee, it is moments like this that define success.

“It’s not about growing quickly. It’s about quality. That’s what will set us apart.”

Like any new business, there have been challenges, particularly around recruitment.

“You get a lot of applicants, but finding the right people takes time and energy. For me, it’s about maintaining high standards. I don’t want quality to slip.”

There is also a balance between growth and sustainability.

“As clients become more independent, that’s a success, but it also means you’re always building the business at the same time.”

Women in franchising

Bee’s journey reflects a wider shift, with more women exploring business ownership through franchising.

“I had just had my third child and was coming out of maternity leave. I needed something that gave me purpose, while still being there for my family.”

Franchising, she says, offers that balance.

“You don’t have to let go of that part of you that wants to build something. With the right support, you can create something incredible.”

Her message to other women is simple.

“Don’t be afraid to take that leap. You’re part of something bigger, you’ve got the support, the tools, the model. You can do it.”

Redefining success

For Bee, success is deeply personal.

“I think there are two sides to it. Of course, I want to grow the business and reach more people. But for me, success is about making a real difference.”

That definition is shaped by her own experience.

“We went through those final moments with my father-in-law, and we saw how much it mattered. His only wish was to be at home, surrounded by family, with his granddaughters.”

She pauses.

“That’s all he wanted.”

It is that memory that continues to drive her.

“If I can help more people have that, to be at home, comfortable, with the people they love in those moments, then I’ve done what I set out to do.”
