Homecare and AI: get seen, get enquiries

That’s how many times people click on a link in an AI Overview in the search results. If you're building a homecare start-up, that's a problem.


This eye-opening stat made us sit up when we read that Google has launched a new ‘AI mode’. You’ll have noticed AI Overviews for many of your searches now, and we at GOHQ have been thinking a lot about how this shift to conversational results will affect online visibility. 


There’s an argument that effective SEO will result in inclusion in AI Overviews, but this isn’t the full story. 


When someone asks AI about homecare options, AI models pull information from all over the internet (think news articles, social media, CQC reviews, forums, reddit, directories, review sites, wikipedia) to decide which companies or services to put forward. Different models favour different sources of information, but it’s usually a mix of the above.


What does this mean for homecare start-ups?


Brand strength: Arguably even more important than before, as a brand’s track record elsewhere, while maybe not picked up by individual searchers, gives greater quality signals to AI and increases opportunities to be shown.


AI-friendly website: Make sure your site can easily be read and understood by AI. Ensure your site allows crawling by AI tools and bots (e.g., GPTBot, CCBot, BingBot).


Zero-click content: (genuinely useful/interesting stuff on your social media platform of choice) from you as a business owner as a way to build credibility and awareness.


Quality over quantity: Traffic to your site might reduce, but those on your site will probably be better informed and have higher intent, so Conversion Rate Optimisation is more important than ever.
