Valentine’s Day is a day for celebrating love and the relationships that make us feel loved. At Good Oaks Home Care, we love to go above and beyond to make days like this memorable for our clients. We know that connections are so important, now more than ever with current COVID-19 restrictions. Find out how we will be spreading the love this Valentine’s Day.
What is the history of Valentine’s Day?
Valentine’s Day on February 14th has its history in the Roman fertility festival of Lupercalia, before it was replaced with St Valentine’s day in the 5th century by the Pope. Formal Valentine’s messages started to be seen in the 1500s, while commercially available cards arrived in the 1800s.
It’s a day for romance and couples isn’t it?
Valentine’s Day has always been associated with love and in more recent years, commercial cards, gifts and meals out. It’s a day people associate with romance, love and couples. We believe it’s important to help connect our customers with their loved ones throughout the year, but Valentine’s Day can be a time when people feel isolated more, so it becomes even more important to make those in our care feel special. Many of our clients have lost their Valentine, or live far apart from loved ones, so it’s important that we help to bring people together.
How is Good Oaks Home Care making Valentine’s Day 2021 special for those in our care?
At Good Oaks Home Care, we put clients and their circle of care at the heart of everything we do. In these challenging times of COVID-19 restrictions, we are helping connect clients to their loved ones through technology like WhatsApp and Zoom and offer two hours free support and companionship visits to those who are feeling lonely. We also send cards and care packages to those clients who may be on their own and feeling isolated, so they know there is someone thinking of them – the small personal touches really do make the difference to how someone feels.
Valentine’s Day is also a great time to say thank you, and show some love, to our carers and teams. We are proud that our care teams are so dedicated and passionate about providing the best possible care for people and helping them live independent and contented lives in their own homes. They go above and beyond for clients and their loved ones and we couldn’t be prouder of them.
