Thanks so much to all those who suggested and requested particular areas to look at as a practical example of where to locate an office.\u00a0Due to popular demand, the area we\u2019re looking at is\u2026. Canterbury!<\/p>\n

We use demographic heat mapping tech to help us make educated decisions based on population age and wealth characteristics. It generally confirms what you suspect about an area, but can throw in some surprises too.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a series of heatmaps that give us some more info on what\u2019s going on in this area: We can help you to visualise the data based on Values, Population Density, and % of Base. All give good insights and need to be looked at together(Red = the highest amount, Blue = the least amount. Light is in the middle.)<\/p>\n

So – what\u2019s all that telling us?<\/p>\n

    \n
  • The younger workers\u00a0are massively concentrated in the city of Canterbury.<\/li>\n
  • The coastal areas have the highest density of affluent elders (important for efficiency and network effects)<\/li>\n
  • There is generally a big proportion of older people, which suggests recruitment is going to be tough and demand will be high.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Because staffing capacity is likely to be a limiting factor, I\u2019d base my office near them to reduce barriers to recruitment. But I\u2019d also want to make it easy to get to the areas where the clients will be. This means on the North of Canterbury for a quick trip up to the coast.<\/p>\n

    You\u2019re also near the University (great for recruitment) and on the main road to retail areas with big supermarkets from the coast too. THIS is where I’d start my search:<\/p>\n
