We are proud to be the UK’s only Carbon Neutral home care company.
This means that every single care visit our team provides, and all emissions from powering and heating our offices, is measured and then offset by local tree planting and investment in certified renewable projects in the UK and around the world.
In the climate emergency we are all experiencing, young and old, every decision we make impacts on the planet in a positive or negative way.
It is not discussed enough that home care is a carbon-intensive service; the vast majority of carers travel in petrol or diesel cars between visits, with mainly short journeys in towns.
How do we ensure carbon neutral care?
Harnessing our technology, we are able to accurately measure our exact carbon footprint, try to reduce it where we can, and offset anything we can’t reduce.
We work with a national accreditation scheme who check and verify our data. We work with experts to offset the carbon we have produced, choosing which projects best suit our ethos and values.
Providing Reassurance
This means that our staff, clients, and their families can rest assured in the knowledge that the service they have chosen has no negative impact on their environment. Indeed, our UK tree planting scheme also protects one tree in the Amazon for each tree planted in the UK, ensuring a net increase in trees globally.
We have shown home care doesn’t need to be bad for the planet, and we hope other care companies follow our lead.
Frequently Asked Questions about our Carbon Neutral Status
- What projects have you funded as part of your Carbon Neutral Status?
The bulk of our offsetting has been through local tree planting, so we can directly benefit the communities we serve.
We have also helped fund wind-power in India and reduced deforestation in the Amazon.
- How do we know this is accurate?
We use the Carbon Footprint Standard.
This is internationally recognised for demonstrating low- or neutral carbon statuses.
This Standard is:
- A unified and fully independent way to manage carbon and energy
- Valid for all stages of carbon management – from assessment, to carbon reductions and carbon neutrality
- Aligned with international best practice guidelines and standards
- Does receiving a carbon neutral service cost more?
No it does not. By working more efficiently and using technology we have been able to achieve this with minimal extra cost, which we do not pass on to our clients.
- I'd like to find out more about carbon neutrality. Where can I do so?
There is a lot of information online about the steps to go through before becoming carbon-neutral. Very briefly, they are:
Measurement – Verification – Reduction – Off-setting
We are also more than happy to help other care providers become carbon neutral. We are all in this together.
